This blog talks about ideas that catch my fancy: TED talks, books (including TED Book Club selections), movies (especially Hot Docs documentaries), travel, and other interesting things I read or hear about.

Geena Rocero
Supermodel speaking at TED. Hmm. Slightly puzzling choice. After a fashion photo in a bikini came the big reveal. Geena started life identified as a male. One atttendee I talked to said she was not surprised. Everyone else I spoke to was gobsmacked like me. Eye opening to hear of her personal journey from the Philippines through an operation in Thailand to a new gender identity in the US.
I sat next to her at one session, and I know I still wouldn't have guessed her story. I've had friends who were gay or lesbian for years, but I had never even met a transgender person. TED is always broadening my horizons, and sometimes taking me out of my comfort zone.
